HOMEWORK POLICY (reviewed 2010)

At Safety Bay Primary School homework is set to provide students with the opportunity to consolidate skills and concepts learned at school.

There are many benefits of a regular homework program. Classroom teachers encourage all students to complete set homework activities.

Homework develops organisational skills, provides additional practice when needed and enables parents to support their child’s learning.

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS:

Years 1 – 3:

The children in this phase of development are expected to complete up to 15 minutes of set homework on no more than four days per week.

Homework may consist of:

Home reading

Recall and practice of basic number facts

Completion of work unfinished during class time (in negotiation with teacher and parents).

Years 4 – 5:

The children in this phase of development are expected to complete up to 20 minutes of set homework on no more than four days per week.

Homework may consist of:

Reading

Recall and practice of tables and extended basic number facts

Completion of work unfinished during class time (in negotiation with teacher and parents).

Years 6 – 7:

The children in this phase of development are expected to complete up to 30 minutes of set homework on no more than four days per week.

Homework may consist of:

Reading and associated activities

Recall and practice of concepts taught during Maths

Work completion

Research relating to class work across all learning areas.
